Job Descriptions - EcoCamp 2014

EcoCamp Lead Instructor

Day Camp dates: June 16-19, July 7-10, and August 11-14

8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday

Overnight Camp dates: July 28-August 1 and August 4- 8

10am Monday – 4 pm Friday

The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) is looking for one educator to work as lead instructor for the ERC’s day and overnight EcoCamps. The lead instructor will work directly with the ERC’s Program Director and Summer Program Assistant. Two training days in early June are also required. Details about both camps are as follows:

EcoCamp Day Camp

  • ·Based at the Blaine County Recreation District campus in Hailey
  • ·Serves rising 2nd - 6th grade students
  • ·Camp hours are 9am – 4pm
  • ·Camp themes: June – Lift Off: The Science of Flight; July – Secrets of Underwater Life; August – Night Stalkers, Day Risers
  • ·The lead instructor, with the help of an assistant instructor, will supervise a group of eight campers. The lead instructor will teach curriculum developed by the ERC Program Director and will directly oversee the safety of the campers and assistant instructor.

Environmental Outdoor Leadership Overnight EcoCamp

  • ·Held over Trail Creek summit at the Idaho Base Camp
  • ·Campers arrive at noon on Monday and are picked up at noon on Friday
  • ·Serves rising 7th – 9th graders
  • ·One day/night of camp will be an overnight backpacking trip
  • ·Camp themes: July – Mountain Survival; August – Sense of Place: Discovering Our Alpine Ecosystem
  • ·As in the day camps, the lead instructor, with the help of an assistant instructor, will supervise a group of eight campers. The lead instructor will teach curriculum developed by the ERC Program Director, assist in evening program activities and will directly oversee the safety of the campers and assistant instructor.

Qualifications

  • ·Bachelor’s or advanced degree, preferably in education or an environmental -related field or 1-2 years successful experience working in an environmental, education or other related field.
  • ·WFR or WFA preferred; CPR & First Aid certified
  • ·Experience working with children and a love of the outdoors
  • ·Preference given to those applicants who can work both day and overnight camps, though that is not a requirement to apply.

Day EcoCamp Assistant Counselors

Day Camp dates: June 16-20, July 7-11 and August 11-15,

The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) is looking for summer interns to work as youth education assistants for the ERC’s summer day EcoCamp. Two training day in early June are also required. The details about day camp are as follows:

  • ·Run out of the Blaine County Recreation District campus in Hailey
  • ·Serves rising 2nd - 6th grade students
  • ·Camp hours are 9am – 4pm
  • ·Camp themes: June – Lift Off: The Science of Flight; July – Secrets of Underwater Life; August – Night Stalkers, Day Risers
    • ·Assistants will help lead instructors in supervising a group of eight campers. Assistants will aid in carrying out camp curriculum and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of the campers.
    • ·This is a fun, paid internship for those 16 years old and above interested in learning more about science-based education and for those who simply have a passion for education and the outdoors! We are looking for individuals who are dependable, creative, have experience working with children, and have a passion for the outdoors.

Overnight Environmental Outdoor Leadership EcoCamp Assistant Counselors

July 28-August 1 and August 4- 8

10am Monday – 4 pm Friday

The Environmental Resource Center is looking for three to four male and female responsible EcoCamp assistants to work with the lead instructors to ensure the safety, fun, and guidance for our rising 7th – 9th graders at our overnight EcoCamp.

The details about Environmental Outdoor Leadership EcoCamp are as follows:

  • ·During the day, assistants will help lead instructors in supervising a group of eight campers. They will aid in implementing camp curriculum and ensuring the safety of the campers. In the evening, assistants will oversee evening programs and activities and be the go-to for overnight needs of campers as they arise.
  • ·Counselors must be 18 years or older, CPR & First Aid certified, and have experience working with children and a love of the outdoors. Backpacking and hiking experience preferred. Preference given to those applicants who can work both camps, though that is not a requirement to apply.
